Kentucky Ham Hot Brown

Look what I came home too!!! I am so thrilled that Andy got this dug out and I can start filling it with organic compost and heirloom vegetable plants in the morning,

Without further ado, let the Kentucky Festivities begin, as tomorrow is Derby Day at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY! Kentucky was my home for 19 years of my life, from age 7-26.

Andy would like to report that these are freakin’ amazing…only he used another word…

  • 4 slices toasted bread
  • 4 ham slices
  • Mornay cheese sauce, prepared (see below)
  • tomatoes, sliced
  • 8 slices turkey bacon, pre-cooked

Preheat broiler. Layer toast, ham, cheese sauce, tomatoes and bacon in that order. Preheat broiler and cook until hot and bubbly.

Mornay Sauce

Heat 3 tablespoons oil in small saucepan. Add 3 tablespoons flour and cook for one minute. Stir in 1 and 1/2 cups 1 % milk and cook, stirring often until thickened. Add 1/2 cup shredded gruyère cheese off the heat. Whisk until combined.
